Can't Afford to Swing

Ok, I read the following in an older thread:

This reminded me of a situation that has occured at our local social. A couple has repeatedly shown up at socials or at dinners without enough money to either pay for dinner, or a taxi to get themselves home (typically after bumming a ride to the event from another member). On multiple occasions other nice members have given them taxi money or paid for their meals.

These two situations got me to thinking. It is possible to swing for free.... The cheapest way to swing would be to be a guest at someone else's house (therefore they have to provide any drinks/snacks - if provided) and all you have to do is get there. If you are lucky and they are desperate (or nice enough) they might even pick you up and take you home.

But you'd still have to met potential playmates somewhere. So if you have no money, how do you meet potential playmates?
